A Westmoreland farmer, who was trying to sell marijuana to send his children to school, was shown leniency when he received a suspended sentence in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court, recently.
Michael Lewis, a 41-year-old resident of Leamington, appeared before the court yesterday to answer to charges of possession and dealing in ganja.
He pleaded guilty to the charges and was given a six-month prison term, suspended for 18 months and was fined $500.
Lewis was arrested on March 8 after police searched his bag and found one pound of ganja. He was one of several passengers in a motor vehicle that was stopped during a spot check along the Reading Main Road.
