A truck, laden with plywood, was looted after it overturned along the Coppers Pen Highway near Falmouth, in Trelawny,
yesterday.
The unit was severely damaged after it, reportedly, hit a trailer some time after 4 a.m. and ended up in the mangroves.
Residents and passers-by helped themselves to several pieces of the plywood before members of the Falmouth police arrived.
It is said that the human body can exhibit superhuman strength in emergency cases. This was the case reported for one of the female looters who was seen moving with a sheet of ply.
One woman, who arrived after the lawmen had taken up their position in a bid to protect the truck's contents, was most upset.
"Oonu fi go ketch tief an' leave honest people fi hustle," she shouted.
Laughter
Her outburst drew tremendous laughter from the small crowd that had gathered at the scene.
Another woman who had apparently hid some of the ply in the mangrove to retrieve them later warned: "A war if nobody trouble mi ply."
Police reports are that the accident occurred at about 4:30 a.m. It is said that both vehicles were travelling in opposite directions when the collision occurred. The details of the collision were not clear, but the drivers, who escaped without injuries, accused each other of drifting into the other's path.
