A good attempt by Munro College from St Elizabeth to advance to the quarter-finals of TVJ's Schools' Challenge Quiz competition failed, as they were whipped and sent home by St Andrew's Ardenne High.
After an intense half an hour, Ardenne advanced after scoring 44 points to Munro's 18 points.
From Section one of the match, Ardenne established its lead, scoring nine points to Munro's seven points. Section two of the match was good for both teams, but better for Ardenne who scored 21 points to end the round with 32 points. Munro only gained 11 points in the segment to end the round with 18 points.
The momentum created by Ardenne as they advance into the third round sealed the win for them, as they gained 12 additional points to end the match with 44 points. Munro, however, gave away as many points as they gained and so ended the round no better than they had started.
Dave Blackwood, captain of the Munro College team, felt the match was good even though they lost. "It was a very good match. I enjoyed it," he said.
He also said the team would definitely do 'better things' next year, although he will not be a part of it.
Room for improvement
Travis Townsend, a member of the Ardenne High team, said he thanked God for the victory, and said the team still had room for improvement as they prepare for their next match. "We still need to fix things. We are still in the competition and we will continue to move under the radar until the finals," he said.
None of the team members or the coach cared to disclose what areas they will be working on as they prepare for the next match. They, however, said they will be seeking to correct all problems.
Members of the Ardenne team are Dujon Dunn (captain), Travis Townsend, Janeil Williams and Antwaine Williams.
Members of the Munro College team are Ricardo Palmer, Donovan Hanson, Dave Blackwood (captain) and Boyen Edwards.
