A man has reportedly been taken into custody in connection with the death of policeman André Chung, whose lifeless body was found in the Tavistock area of St Andrew on Wednesday.
Detective Constable Chung, 22, who was stationed at Special Branch, is the first policeman to be killed since the start of the year.
Reports reaching THE STAR indicate that the Clarendon police conducted an operation in a section of the parish where they nabbed the individual.
When contacted, Supt Radcliffe Lewis, head of the Clarendon police, confirmed the reports, saying that a suspect was indeed held.
Superintendent Lewis told THE STAR that "the suspect was held at about 2 p.m. at a company during a sting operation."
The identity of the suspect is being withheld pending an identification parade.
"The suspect will be interrogated and if found to be involved, the necessary actions will be taken," said Supt Lewis.
The Constabulary Communi-cation Network reported that about 6:50 a.m. a passer-by saw the body and alerted the police
Subsequent inspection of the body revealed that the detective constable had been shot several times.
Commissioner of Police, Rear Admiral Hardley Lewin, has denounced the actions of whoever is responsible for the death of Constable Chung.
Meanwhile, the Jamaica Constabulary Force is offering a $1 million reward to anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest and charge of those responsible for the death of the detective
constable.
