Man gets six months for stealing pipe

A man who stole several PVC pipes from the National Water Commission was sentenced to six months in jail when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

Phillip Stamp pleaded guilty to the charge of simple larceny before Resident Magistrate Glen Brown.

When the clerk of court attempted to read the allegations against Stamp and told the court that he went on to the National Water Commission's premises and stole 10 lengths of pipe, he said in a very matter-of-fact tone, "No miss, is 12". Those present in the courtroom burst into laughter.

After calm returned to the court, RM Brown sentenced the accused to six months in jail.
