TRAILING Shane Ellis by four wins from third-place in the jockeys' standings, champion rider Omar Walker is set to hit overdrive tomorrow afternoon with at least six winners on the 11-race card, including MEDICAL REPORT in the 1200-metre 10th event for Open Allowance runners.
A disqualified winner of the Abe Issa Memorial on February 9, beating Saturday's Eros Trophy winner RAMPAGE into fourth-place, MEDICAL REPORT faces American-bred CLOCK WORK, who has slipped down from Grade One, having not won a race at the top level since June.
CLOCK WORK, who was chased off the lead in Saturday's Eros Trophy by RAMPAGE, returns seven pounds lighter at 57.0 kilos and going a furlong shorter.
However, since returning off a three-month lay-up last October, the six-year-old American-bred has not held his gallop in two races, quitting too easily when challenged in the stretch run.
Despite working well ahead of last Saturday's Eros Trophy, CLOCK WORK had not raced in nearly five months and had no answer when an easy-stalking RAMPAGE slipped to the lead off the home turn and weakened into fourth.
MEDICAL REPORT had no such problem with RAMPAGE in the Abe Issa two weeks earlier, always ahead of the Richard Azan-trained runner, who was never a threat, finishing almost five lengths fourth.
The presence of CLOCK WORK's in-form stablemate, PASSA PASSA, who ran on for a clear second in the Eros Trophy, suggests champion trainer Wayne DaCosta could be looking to his other American-bred, who landed the Grade Two King's plate in fine style two Saturdays ago.
Trevor Simpson has been called in to partner PASSA PASSA at 57.0 kilos, the same as Dane Nelson, who retains the ride aboard speedy CLOCK WORK.
Whereas PASSA PASSA seems a bit heavy to sit in the pace at 1200 metres, MEDICAL REPORT will be right there with 55.0, stalking CLOCK WORK, who will be trying to shake loose down the backstretch.
MEDICAL REPORT should get first run on CLOCK WORK and hold the likes of PASSA PASSA and NASATOL in a charge for the wire.
Jackpots at $2.19m
Walker's loss aboard howling favourite RAINBOW TRAIN in Wednesday's CTL Claiming Series Race Two knocked all Super-6 and Pick-9 bets cold where SIMPLE SWEET had failed after landing the eighth at 30-1.
With the Super-6 carryover at $1.079m the Pick-9 at $1.1m, Walker should make amends with what appear to be five bankers - CHINA TOWN in the second, MAMBO in the third, SKYWAY EXPRESS in the fifth, RED I in the seventh and three-year-old debutant FIRST LADY in the ninth.
CHINA TOWN is down in class on a $260,000 tag at 1500 metres after going down by a short head to LATIN KING at 2000 metres on a $300,000 ticket on January 12.
MAMBO is back at $170,000 claiming, going 2000 metres, after losing to the out-of-class pair, SOY MUJER and SIR MOHANDAS BABA, at 1820 metres on New Year's Day.
SKYWAY EXPRESS won't be denied at 1000 metres round after his strong effort behind super-fit CRUCIAL POINT at 1000 metres straight and RED I is back among $170,000 claimers at 1000 metres straight in the seventh after placing fourth on a $210,000 tag at the distance two Wednesdays ago.
Finally, DaCosta's FIRST LADY has impressed at exercise and should immediately get off the mark at 1000 metres straight after posting 1:01.0 for five furlongs on the round course.
