Shana-Gaye Tracey
In Shana-Gaye Tracey, Manchester High have an athlete with world-level experience who is eager to stamp her class on the proceedings in Class Two. Like Goule, she will feature as one of the main sources of Manchester's points at Boys and Girls Championships.
She brings to the table impressive achievements.Tracey is the defending champion in 400m hurdles open as well as the flat 400m for Class Two. This is her second year in the class and indications are that she will leave her mark by setting establishing records. The 17-year-old has also made a mark on the international scene for her country, getting silver medals at both the World Youth and Junior championships. Regionally, she is a Carifta Games double champion in 300m and 400m hurdles as well as being part of the 4x400m gold medal winning teams.
Her prowess in the hurdles is nothing strange as coach Jerry Holness has developed a strong tradition in these events dating back to the Robinson twins. Tracey will compete in the 200m, 400m and 800m. Anyone doubting her capacity to win in the 800m would have had other ideas following her performance in the 4x800m at the Gibson Relays as she ran the decisive third leg that must have frightened favourites Holmwood.
Tracey is going for a hat-trick of wins in the flat 400m. In 2006, she captured the Class Three final in 54.39 seconds. Last year she won in Class Two clocking 53.33 in addition to taking the 400m hurdles in 57.90. The Class Two 400m record is 52.41 set by Holmwood's Sonita Sutherland in 2004. The 400m hurdles record, 56.55, was set by St Jago's Melaine Walker in 2001.
