A man who was found with several counterfeit notes and a scanning machine, said the money was not his when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
Sheldon Barnett, 21, of an Orange Street address, pleaded not guilty to the charge of possession of counterfeit notes.
The court heard that on February 21, police patrolling the Orange Street area of downtown Kingston saw a young man acting in what they thought was a suspicious manner. They approached the man, he ran and was chased into a nearby yard. The police followed him there and their search led them to a house, where they found a young man sleeping in bed. Several counterfeit notes, including three $1,000 bills and several $100 bills, were found at the house. A scanning machine was also found.
When he appeared in court, Barnett told RM Glen Brown that the money does not belong to him and that he does not live at the premises.
The matter is to be mentioned again on March 17. Barnett was remanded and RM Brown ordered that his fingerprints be taken.
