A teenager who allegedly conspired to defraud her bosses of over $300,000 within just five months of being employed, was granted bail when she appeared before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
When the matter against 19-year-old Sade Williams - who was employed to Crichton Brothers as a cashier - was brought before the court for the first time, the teen pleaded not guilty to two counts of conspiracy to defraud.
Williams, a resident of Windsor Lodge in Somerton, St. James, was granted bail with one or two sureties in the sum of $100,000 with reporting conditions at the Adelphi Police Station on Tuesdays and Fridays. She is scheduled to return to court on March 25.
The allegations are that between December 2007 and January, she carried out two credit card transactions without following the company's policy. She allegedly drafted receipts without adding the identification number of the card user.
The first transaction was to the sum of US$3,217.12 ($228,415.52) for the purchases of ply boards and the other was for the purchase of building blocks to the sum of $76,940. The irregularity was discovered this month.
It is said that she allegedly told her employers that she would repay the money.
