Dinthill to seek revenge after losing out to Titchfield

By Jonique Gaynor, Staff Reporter

After leaving their second round match with just one point to Titchfield High's 37, the Dinthill Technical High School team said they would be seeking revenge in next year's Schools' Challenge Quiz competition.

The team made it to the third round in last year's School's Challenge Quiz competition, but made an early exit this year after the humbling and somewhat embarrassing loss.

At the start of the match, no one would have predicted that Dinthill would be leaving the studios of Television Jamaica with just one point, and none were more shocked than the supporters who travelled from St Catherine to watch their school play. At the end of the match, when the scores were announced, one student in the audience declared, "When wi go back, wi naw tell dem how di match go, mek dem watch it dem self." Another disagreed, " No, mi a go tell dem. Wi fi tell dem seh Dinthill is number one."

Disappointment

The team members did not find it funny, however, and this was evident in the tears and looks of disappointment.

Titchfield, on the other hand, was the picture of confidence. They performed impressively in the first round, racking up a total of eight points, while their competitors had only three. This trend continued throughout the second section, where Titchfield's dominance was hard to ignore. They did well in all of their individual minutes, and at the end of the section had 27 points. Dinthill, however, did not do so well. In their first minute, they gave no correct answers, and the most they scored in any minute was five. Their score at the end of the section was nine.

The buzzer section was where things got really bad for Dinthill, and quite the opposite for their opponents. Titchfield added a total of 10 points to their score, while Dinthill lost a total of eight. Every question they attempted was answered incorrectly. Those in the audience, especially those from the opposing school, let out bursts of laughter at every incorrect answer and subsequent loss of points. Some also whispered, "buzz again, buzz again!"

Chase Roberts, captain of the Titchfield team, said his team did not play as well as they could. "We're a bit shaky, especially in the buzzer section," he said.

Dinthill's captain Roshane Smith was obviously disappointed. "I think we could have done better," he said, "The team was nervous, but we'll be seeking revenge next year."
