Jamaica squad to face STETHS XI

By Richard Bryan, Freelance Writer

Cricket fans from St Elizabeth and its environs will get a rare chance to see the present Jamaica squad against a strong line-up of former St Elizabeth Technical (STETHS) players tomorrow, at the school's playfield in Santa Cruz.

The game is a Twenty20 affair, which starts at 1:00 p.m. Patrons will be required to pay a fee of $200 as the game is a fund-raising event. Chief organiser, Keith Wellington, the school's vice principal, said the proceeds would be jointly shared between the local association and the school's Headley Cup team.

The Jamaica squad will include the players who won handsomely against The Bahamas in the Stanford 20/20 in Antigua on Wednesday. Danza Hyatt, who emerged man of the match in that game with a top score of 71, heads the squad which also includes Xavier Marshall, Wavell Hinds, David Bernard Jr., skipper Tamar Lambert, Brendan Nash, Odean Brown, Carlton Baugh Jr., Andre McCarthy, Donovan Sinclair, Yanique Elliott, Jermaine Lawson and Andre Russell.

The West Indies strike pair of speedsters Darren Powell and Jerome Taylor headline the STETHS XI who will be led by Shawn Findlay. Findlay opened with Marshall in the Stanford 20/20 tournament. Also included in the STETHS XI is national spinner Nikita Miller, training squad members Alton Beckford and Wayne Simpson. Howard Powell and Davian Davidson, two members of the St Elizabeth parish team, Zeniffe Fowler, who now plays for Manchester, and the pair of Kamal Dennis and Mel Wint, members of the JDF team, are also included in the STETHS squad.
