spanish town

Four persons who allegedly assaulted a policeman found themselves in trouble with the law and will face the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on February 12 to answer to several charges.

Those charged are 47-year-old Jacqueline Medwynter, 34-year-old Christine Francis, Sharon Reid 47-years-old and 43-year-old Cassius Cornife, all of Spanish Town Road and Chisholm Avenue addresses.

Medwynter is charged with indecent exposure, disorderly conduct, indecent language, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest. Francis and Reid are charged with being armed with an offensive weapon, obstructing the police, disorderly conduct and assaulting a police officer. And Cornife is charged with assault and obstructing the police.

According to investigating officer Rudolph Grey, of the Spanish Town Police, about noon on Sunday, February 3, Medwynter was observed in the Shop N Save Supermarket. She allegedly picked up a bottle of lotion and put it under her clothing and was approached.

Grey alleged that after Medwynter put back the item, she started to behave boisterously and used indecent language. The police reported that when he held unto her, she hit him in the head and that Reid, Francis and also Cornife came in after he held on to Medwynter to take her to the nearby Spanish Town Station.

All four were subsequently arrested and charged by the police.

The police told THE STAR that the four persons are members of a group known as The Gang of Five who goes into business places and take what they want without paying.

"One of the members is now incarcerated, but these four continue to act on their own," he said.
