A former port employee, who was being sought by the police for over a decade, was sentenced when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court recently.
The court heard that Anthony Harrison, a former maintenance operator at the Kingston Terminal, eluded the police for more than 10 years, following a massive ganja find at the Kingston Wharves in 1996, one which local investigators described as the biggest in country's history.
Ganja weighing 125,000 pounds was reportedly found in scrap metal which was destined for export.
Harrison was said to have fled the island shortly after, but returned in 2006 and was finally arrested.
He was sentenced to three years imprisonment after being found guilty of attempting to smuggle ganja out of the country.
Though denying the allegations brought against him, Harrison was also fined $2.5 million, and is to serve five years if the sum is not paid.
