There have been mixed
reactions from some customers who invested in high-risk investments as to what is likely to happen to their hard-earned cash.One woman said she invested $500,000 and is hoping she will be able to get back her money at the appropriate time.
A man says he is having doubts as to whether he will be able to get back his $200,000.
A woman, who sells downtown Kingston, says if she loses her $150,000 she has no one to blame but herself, because she knew she was taking a risk.
"It is a lot of money for me and I don't intend to lose it," the woman who invested $500,000 remarked. "I had put in the money to make life better for me and my three children because everybody knows that it is very difficult to make ends meet in Jamaica," she added.
"Well, I put in my $200,000 and I really don't want to lose it because it would be a big blow for me, because it took me nearly two years to save the money," the man disclosed.
The woman who invested $150,000 remarked, "Well, if I lose my money, I can only blame myself because I was only trying to get al little more money to help my two children who are in high school, but I do hope that those investment clubs become registered."
The Financial Services Commission has the authority under the Financial Services Commission Act to register and regulate financial institutions. Section 6 of the act states, in part, that "for the purpose of protecting customers of financial services, the commission shall supervise and regulate financial institutions".
