THE EDITOR, Sir:
The Half-Way Tree Transport Centre is a spectacular display of man's skill and ingenuity. Things like these make me proud to be a Jamaican. I think it is going to work out fine in relation to the high cost. I went there on the first day of the normal work week and I could see the happiness as well as the confusion of commuters. All the little glitches will be ironed out and all will say they are glad for this new landmark in our country.
The new shuttle system will see persons travelling from point A to B with gas being saved by the buses and commuters saving on fares. It is a masterpiece that will save time and energy. If people gravitate to it as they did on the first day it will be a resounding success story.
Thanks to the new centre, the traffic congestion in Half-Way Tree, which has wasted so many man hours, may be a thing of the past. Buses are not supposed to stay more than three minutes under this sheltered facility. This is, in reality, a First World facility, and it makes me proud of the vision of whosoever came up with the idea. It is the brainchild of some PNP visionary, but in the end it will be neither for the PNP nor JLP, it will be for the people of this country.
Let us not lose our legacy, but embark on strategic and innovative methods of caring for this eye- catching building.
I am, etc.,
