The Central Village police in St Catherine have arrested and charged a motorist with manslaughter in connection with the death of a senior citizen.

James Lewis of Old Harbour, St Catherine, was charged by the police yesterday with the death of 65-year-old Albertine Tully of Windsor Heights, Central Village.

According to Corporal Lloyd Wellington of the Central Village Traffic Department, Lewis was driving a Toyota motor car towards Kingston about 6:45 p.m. on Thursday evening, January 31, when he swerved from the right to the left lane and reportedly hit down the senior citizen.

According to the policeman, the senior citizen fell on the windscreen of the car and was thrown some 50 feet away. The impact chopped off her left leg completely. She died on the spot.

Wellington said it is clear that speeding was a contributing factor to the accident, and is asking motorists to proceed with caution, especially in the built-up area such as Central Village.

This was the second person to have been killed along this stretch of road within six days.
