Bomb scare

By Elgin Taylor, Star Writer
St Catherine

Normal operations at the Ministry of Education's Region Six Office was disrupted on Tuesday as a result of a bomb scare.

Reports from the Old Harbour police stated that Errol Levy, the regional director, got a telephone call at 10:15 a.m., informing him that a bomb, which was planted in the building, was set to go off at 11:00 a.m.

The Old Harbour police was called in and when they arrived, they found that the staff had already vacated the building. The police were assisted by Special Branch detectives from St Catherine South Division who scanned and combed the building, but no explosive devices were found. The staff re-occupied the building at approximately 1:20 p.m.

The Star made a check at the facility on Wednesday and found that only a handful of staff members was present, as some persons were said to be traumatised by the incident.

The Education Ministry's Region Six branch serves the schools in the parishes of Clarendon and St Catherine.
