Man arrested by fish vendors

By Marlene McPherson, Star Writer

A citizen's arrest by a number of female fish vendors in Black River, St. Elizabeth, on Thursday was a sight to behold.

The man arrested was Neville Bennett of a Montego Bay address in St James, who allegedly credited fish from a number of fish vendors, mostly from Parottee District, in the parish. The fish vendors credit Bennett fish some years ago and he disappeared. He never returned to pay them.

He, however, came back to the town and was spotted buying fish Thursday about mid-day and was recognised by the women. They immediately held onto him and took him to the Black River Police Station.

Bennett acknowledged to the police that he owed the vendors money, but only one woman took the advice of the police and went to the courts officer where she took out a summons which was immediately serve on Bennett. He is booked to appear in the Black River Resident Magistrate's Court on February 25.
