Morant Bay High school yesterday defeated York Castle High to advance to the second round of the TVJ's Schools' Challenge Quiz.

In a close match, it took the third segment for the Morant Bay team to distance itself from its opponents. In section one of the match Morant Bay scored eight points, while York Castle scored seven.

Section two of the match was also quite intense with the one point difference between both teams increasing to two as they prepared for the buzzer segment of the match. At the end of that section Morant Bay had scored 20 points to York Castle's 18.

Section three of the match was mostly one-sided with Morant Bay making more correct buzzes than their opponents who only attempted four of the many questions asked.

When the section and the match ended Morant Bay High had scored 26 points while York Castle had 14 points.

Sanjo Edwards, captain of Morant Bay, told THE STAR that while they had won, they felt the match could have been better.

The team lost to McGrath High in the first round last year. Edwars said they intend to work on the speed segment of their game as they prepare for their next match.

York Castle High however said they did not stick to the game plan and that cost them the match. "I guess we didn't stick to what we had planned. We did not perform as we would have liked, we had a few mess ups in the buzzer round and we could not get pass those," team captain Reamon Francis, said.

They intend to train earlier and harder for next year's competition.

Members of the York Castle team: Douglas Brown, Micah-Hugh Thomas, Ray Rodgers and Reamon Francis (captain).

Members of Morant Bay: Sanjo Edwards (captain), Cory Phidd, Razan Richards and Darrian McGhann.
