There continues to be shock and a lot of discussion over the revelations last week that Manchester's best known football club, Los Perfectos, has with-drawn from the Super Plus sponsored South Central Confed league.
Los Perfectos is operated by former Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) president Tony James, a member of the FIFA Youth Committee and who was recently drafted by Captain Burrell to head the JFF subcommittee on Youth Development.
The club has, in the past, competed in the Premier League and came close to qualification in the last decade the last time being 2004, when it was edged out by Boys' Town in the final match of the qualification series held at Collie Smith Drive.
The decision to withdraw was communicated by letter to the Confed Secretariat, the contents of which the chairman does not intend to release until the club meets with a disciplinary com-mittee today.
Competition rules automatically require a 15,000 dollar fee, but that appears to be of little concern. Star Sports has been reliably informed that the management of the club has long expressed concerns with the competition itself.
These were mentioned in an interview with James, last week.
"We had told them (Confed) that last year would be our last," he tried to explain. "It was a mistake for us to have started the league." He also said the club had been hurt by the pre-season exodus of players to Seba and Sporting Central.
In addition to rumours that only a few players were turning up for regular training, Los Perfectos' form has been ragged this year. They were beaten in a local knock-out semi-final by New Green, a team which was relegated in its first season of Confed Super League, a competition in which Los Perfectos reached the semi-finals.
They fared worse in the Confed, beaten 4-0 by Naggo Head away, before earning a 1-1 against Holland PYC, newcomers to the league whose only point so far came in that match. Things began to look suspicious when two of their games were postponed and last Wednesday, a terrible picture had emerged when the club suffered its worst defeat in recent memory - a 6-0 drubbing by Revoli.
