Bridgeport High School yesterday proved to be tough contenders for the team from the Wolmer's Boys' School in Television Jamaica's Schools' Challenge Quiz. Though the team from Wolmer's eventually emerged victors, the fact that Bridgeport High came so close seemed to somehow overshadow their victory.
The Portmore team seemed focused, well-prepared and determined and this was evident from the very first section of the match. Wolmer's was on six points, while Bridgeport was on eight.
It seemed the Wolmer's team recognised just how big of a threat their opponents were, and launched into full gear during section two. They quickly caught up with their opponents and, in no time, were ahead. The score at the end of the second section was Bridgeport 19 and Wolmer's Boys 26.
Team spirit
Though Bridgeport was trailing a few points, it was clear that their team spirit was not broken. With the help of five correct answers, they easily caught up with their opponents. They lost a few points, however, and perhaps this was what eventually cost them the match. Wolmer's Boys only buzzed in once, earning two points and should be glad that Bridgeport made a few mistakes, as this was what really gave them victory. In the end, Bridgeport were on 25 points while Wolmer's Boys was on 28.
The Bridgeport team was clearly distraught, but their coach, Felicia Grey, told THE STAR, "In terms of the overall match, my team made a good representation of themselves. All of them are new to quiz, but our preparation geared us towards today. But overall, I'm satisfied."
Coach of the Wolmer's team, Carlington Burrell, said, "Bridgeport was a very competitive team. We tried our best to prepare for them but they played an excellent game. We gave it our best and kept our composure and that was really what brought us through."
Next match: Yallahs High School vs. Victor Dixon High School.
