Jamaica's Under-21 netball coach, Janet Guy, has expressed satisfaction with the level of maturity shown by the young Sunshine Girls following the team's five-day camp, which ended at the G.C Foster College, in St. Catherine, on Sunday.
The young Sunshine Girls are currently preparing for the World Youth Netball Championships set for July 2009 in the Cook Islands. The Jamaicans finished a disappointing fourth in the 2005 championships held in Florida.
"We had planned for a holistic camp that would make sure that the mind, body and the soul were touched and that was achieved. We wanted the girls to develop that team cohesiveness and that was also achieved," said Guy, who is also a former national senior team coach. Twenty-seven players participated in the camp. They included national senior representatives, Romelda Aiken, who was voted the most outstanding goal shooter at last year's World Netball Championships in New Zealand, and Christina Solmon.
Guy added that the girls are all very talented both on and off the court, and were very creative.
"This shows that they are thinking and once you have thinkers then we are on the right road because they will be able to read the game, understand the game and execute whenever they are out there playing," said Guy.
According to Guy, the girls really enjoyed every moment of the camp and they are now looking forward to the next one.
