Whats It's About: Ben Stone (Seth Rogen), an overweight, immature and unemployed slacker, meets Allison Scott (Katherine Heigl) a responsible woman working on the hit TV network E! Entertainment Channel. In a twist of fate Stone and Scott get drunk at a club and, after a one night stand, Scott finds herself pregnant. The two are faced with raising a completely unexpected child that, ironically, brings the unlikely couple closer together. Despite the advice from both her mother and sister, Scott gives Stone a chance and the two adapt to each other's lives, supporting one another through the pregnancy. Everything goes well until Scott begins to notice the difficulties between her married sister (Leslie Mann) and her husband (Paul Rudd). Scott and Stone split up and Stone puts his life in perspective, finding a job, an apartment and preparing for the baby. The two get together again towards the end, a happy and mature couple.
Long Story Short:Knocked Up is a delightful comedy. Not filled with the usual slapstick farces that have dominated in recent years, Knocked Up has subtly clever jokes that are truly funny. While the humour is ever present, Knocked Up also realistically shows the effects of an unplanned pregnancy on an unexpected couple as the two try to cope for the baby's sake. The comedy touches on reactions from the female about her work situation as a pregnant woman, the reaction from family as well as friends. Katherine Heigl gives a classic performance as she goes through hormone changes and the decisions that will affect her life and the life of her child, forever.
