Firearms, ammunition missing from police station

Mystery surrounds the disappearance of two firearms and a quantity of ammunition from the City Centre Police Station in Central Kingston on January 1.

Police sources told THE STAR that two 9mm Browning pistols and over 400 rounds of assorted ammunition was discovered missing from the station on New Year's Day.

THE STAR was also told that preliminary investigations were conducted by the Kingston Central CIB before the Professional Standards Branch (PSB) took over investigative duties.

Head of the PSB, Assistant Commissioner of Police Novelette Grant instructed THE STAR to contact Superintendent Millicent Sprowl Thomas, head of the Kingston Central police.

However, numerous efforts to contact her proved futile up to press time.

Sources also disclosed that no police officer has been relieved of their duty until further investigations are completed and a file sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for ruling.
