A returning resident is not optimistic that there will be a significant reduction in crime in the near future.
She is now taking steps to sell her property in St. James and go back to the United States, where she lived for 35 years.
"I am so sad to see the state of affairs in Jamaica," she said.
"Since I returned here, all I can hear about is people being gunned down on an almost daily basis, as if we are living in a war zone."
"I do agree that all law-abiding citizens have a right to assist the police in their fight against crime by giving valuable information to the police, but my greatest concern is how did the leaders of the country and the police allow crime to get out of hand since Independence of 1962.
"Now I have the task of selling my property so that I can return to the U.S.A. later this year. A man in my community is interested in purchasing the property but he does not want to go through a lawyer until he makes the final payment. He wants to make six instalments and put the money in my bank account. Is this a reasonable request?"
The sale of land should always be done with the assistance of a lawyer and the agreement must be in writing. You must consult a lawyer so that you can get proper advice and assistance on the issue.
