Arlington struggle in South Central Confed

Richard Bryan, Freelance Writer

Former Premier League contestant Arlington continued to find the going rough in the Super Plus sponsored South Central Confed League after losing 1-2 to Original Hazard of Clarendon in this past weekend's fourth round.

It was Arlington's third loss (others coming against Bodles and Tafari Lions) and they sit at the bottom of Zone B without a single point. The win for Original Hazard was a huge bounce back following a spanking 0-4 loss to Hillstars of Manchester in the previous round. With six points, Original Hazard share the lead with unbeaten Bodles, whose game against Hillstars at Cobbla was not played due to the non-appearance of the referees. The competition was itself largely hampered last weekend by a number of unplayed matches.

Match postponed

In Zone A, the challenge between the unbeaten Rivoli and Los Perfectos was postponed until next Wednesday at Rio Cobre Oval. It was a similar scenario for the Morgan's Pass/Newlands match at Turner's Oval. The entire round three was postponed as teams opted for a Christmas break.

In the lone Zone A game played, Naggo Head overcame Holland PYC 2-1 to jump to six points and the share of the lead with Rivoli. Naggo Head, who were rebounding from a previous 0-1 loss to Morgan's Pass, got their goals in the first half from former Arnett Garden's Premier League player, Denton Shedden and Christopher Harris. Edward Barrett scored a second half effort for the St. Elizabeth team.

The highlight of the round came in Zone B where there was a goal feast at Lacovia in a battle of the "Lions" where Tafari (St. Elizabeth) were 'humbled'' by their counterparts from Clarendon. The win took Humble Lions to four points, one ahead of Tafari Lions.

Meanwhile indications are that everything should be in place to resume the league properly with a full slate of matches. Two matches are on for this Saturday - Naggo Head vs Rivoli and Tafari Lions vs Hillstars at Lacovia. On Sunday, Newlands host Los Perfectos at Ironside Oval, Morgan's Pass vs Holland PYC at Turners Oval, Bodles vs Original Hazard and Humble Lions vs Arlington at Effortville.
