On New Year's Eve, Dalling Street football team won the Richie Stephens Pot Of Gold Football League, which, they say, was in honour of their teammate who was killed almost three weeks ago.

"We won this cup for a reason because our little friend weh name Booter dead and gone, but we a represent and take it home for him," said captain of the Dalling St. team, entertainer, Dwayne Hall, who goes by the stage name, Whisky Baggio.

"He scored the first goal for us at the start of the season so we haffi win this trophy fi him," Whisky Baggio added on Monday.

He said their 3-0 win over George's Plain All-Stars was not a surprise since they had earlier passed an acid test of beating champion team, Boneless.

"From we beat Boneless and leave them homeless, me know we a go win the trophy 'cause they were the top team," Baggio said.

The goal scorers were André Vassell, who headed home a cross followed by a canon from 40 yards by Dale Gillard, and finally a nod from Delroy 'Mudjo' Foster which he watched settle in the goal before celebrating.

President of the league, Windel Dawson, declared that Pot of Gold, a record label founded by entertainer Richie Stephens, had achieved its mandate.

"Richie Stephens' Pot of Gold is all about giving back to the community and we have been giving the youths something to do to entertain themselves."

For the victory, Dalling Street won $100,000 plus 20 tickets to Tuesday night's Unity Splash, which is a continuation of the annual Pot Of Gold activities.

Whisky Baggio pointed out that Dalling Street would now be looking to qualify for the Westmoreland Division One League.
