Resume capital punishment!

THE EDITOR, Sir:

As long as God lendeth me breath, as long as I remain a citizen of Jamaica, I will continue to speak against injustice, crime and violence or any other issue. I am so glad there is this thing called 'Freedom of speech'.

I have four points that I would like to share with you. Point number one: When King David committed adultery with Bathsheba, God forgave him but he did not escape the punishment. He was punished. Likewise, Saddam Hussien - a man of high authority was hanged for the crimes he committed. Saddam was not put in an electric chair, neither was he given the lethal-infection. He was hanged by the neck. He felt the sting of death.

Therefore, what happened to Jamaica? These savage murderers and criminals who are butchering adults and children at will, are not feeling the sting of death. I am calling upon the Government to resume capital punishment 'now' and hang these vicious murderers by the neck. Let them feel the deadly sting of death. Our Government is too soft - all o f them - past and present. We need though drastic government.

Point number two: blood shed. Stabbing is becoming a norm in Jamaica. These heart-rending deaths seem like a dream. They should go down in the history book. How on God's earth a man can use a knife to cut (not slit) a woman's throat like a goat? How on God's earth can a man use a knife to stab a woman several times so savagely to death, like an animal? This is absolutely incredible. These wicked scenes which are becoming so frequent, seem like nothing to many people. My fellow Jamaicans, I'm warning you: look before you leap, safety first, be on the alert. You are moving against heated-temper people who are like lions. They will tear you to pieces. Don't mash their corn.

Point number three: Motor vehicle accidents. I have seen with my two eyes time and time again, motorists deliberately driving recklessly on the road. Some of them are taking it for granted in breaking the law and racing. So, the Government and those in authority are just talking in vain, because they will not stop. Motor vehicle accidents are claiming the lives of many people in this country. Life is very precious. So when a motorist drives recklessly and kills someone he should be given a life sentence. It's a mockery; no respect for people and the law.

Point number four: Public transport. It's like agony most of the time travelling on public transport because of the lack of love and unity. If you accidentally step on someone's toe, when body contact is unavoidable, you may be threatened, you may be stabbed or disgracefully tongue -lashed. It's serious!

So, you see, we are in a serious crisis, a death crisis. Does the Government, the Opposition, the Members of Parliament and the Church realise that we are in a gigantic crisis? And money is not the major answer or the solution to this terrible agony. The answer is love and respect for your fellowman, the respect for human beings, for life. And this is a fact, not an opinion.

I am, etc.,
