Eddie Murphy and Tracey Edmonds married in an idyllic ceremony on New Year's Day.

The 46-year-old actor and the 40-year-old film producer exchanged vows barefoot on the beach at sunset on a private island off Bora Bora, in French Polynesia in front of 25 friends and family members.

Tracey walked down the aisle to Gladys Knight's Makings of You wearing a figure-hugging off-white dress, especially made for her by designers Sugia Nazel and Jill Baracci. Eddie wore a cream suit and vest.

R'n'B singer Johnny Gill was best man, while actress Nicole Avant and Julie Lev were Tracey's maid and matron of honour respectively. Tracey's parents, Jacqueline and George McQuarn; her brother, Michael; Eddie's mother, Lillian Lynch; and his brother, Vernon, were all present.

The ceremony took place under a gazebo made from 6,000 shells. Afterwards, the guests celebrated at a private dinner and were entertained by Los Angeles DJ, Darrin Ebron.

The wedding cake featured four layers in whites and cream with handmade sugar cymbidium and dendrobium orchids.

Eddie and Tracey began dating last autumn and were engaged in July.

Eddie has five children from his marriage to Nicole Mitchell Murphy, who filed for divorce in 2005. He also has a daughter, Angel Iris, with Spice Girl Mel B.

Tracey has two sons from her 13-year marriage to singer Kenneth 'Babyface' Edmonds.
