Excelsior whip Quarrie 54-44 in ISSA/KFC basketball

Led by 23 points from Dario McHayle, Excelsior beat Donald Quarrie 54-44 and maintained their flawless win record in the ISSA/KFC High School Basketball League.

In another game played yesterday, Old Harbour High hammered McGrath High 102-32. Bradley Bougles netted 32 points for the winners, while Nigel Pantry scored 21 points for McGrath.

McHayle, who also grabbed 16 rebounds as he comfortably towered above everyone, was supported by Joel Wedderburn who nabbed 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Donald Quarrie's Mikhail Robinson was a one-man show as he carried his team through all four quarters. His 23 points, eight rebounds and eight steals proved too little as Donald Quarrie slipped to their third loss in four games.

Excelsior was without key player Christopher Villas and will have to get use to playing without him.

Sixteen year-old Villas left the island yesterday on a basketball scholarship and will represent Southside Baptist Christian School in Richmond, Virginia, U.S.A. Two other Jamaican student-athletes, Melvin Robinson of St. George's College and Omari Williams of Calabar, will represent Southside Baptist and are scheduled to leave today. All three youngsters were spotted at the annual Star Search Basketball Camp.
