Spotlight remains on St Catherine teams

The spotlight will again be on the St. Catherine teams when the second round of the Super Plus-sponsored South Central Super League is played this weekend.

The Super League has 12 teams, five of which hail from St Catherine. the remaining seven spread among Clarendon- Humble Lions, Original Hazard and newcomers Morgan's Pass; Manchester - Los Perfectos and Hillstars and St. Elizabeth - Holland police Youth Club and Tafari Lions. Four St. Catherine teams recorded victories last weekend and lead the respective zones. Two will however, cross each other's paths in this weekend's schedule.

Parish derby

In Zone A, Newlands will battle Revoli in their parish derby on Sunday at Ironside Oval. Clarendon's Morgan Pass, which suffered 0-3 at the hands of Revoli last week, again face the might of another St. Catherine team - Naggo's Head, who ran riot against Los Perfectos with the biggest win of the round, 4-0, at home.

Los Perfectos will hope for better luck when they host Holland PYC of St. Elizabeth, tomorrow at Brooks Park. Holland lost 0-1 to Newlands last week but more important, Marvin Tate, who featured as a Premier League coach in the past, has now taken over the reins of the Manchester flag bearers, whose squad was depleted by several players who now ply their trade at a higher level with Seba United.

In other match-ups, Hillstars, who earned a creditable draw against last year's beaten finalists Humble Lions on a tough-playing surface at Effortville, should welcome hosting Original Hazard at Cobbla on Sunday in a Zone B encounter.

Original Hazard were idle last week as St. Elizabeth team Tafari Lions failed to show for their scheduled encounter at Curatoe Hill. Star Sports has since learned that Tafari Lions cited transportation problems, but it is likely that competition rules will apply. This means the Clarendon team will be handed a victory and a 2-0 goal cushion. Bodles will also host Humble Lions tomorrow.
