East Fest promoter Derrick Morgan chats with Minister of Youth, Culture and Sports Olivia 'Babsy' Grange at the launch of East Fest 2007, held at the Hilton Kingston hotel, New Kingston, on Monday, December 10 - Winston Sill
The seventh staging of Red Label Wine East Fest was launched last Monday in the Jonkanoo Lounge, Hilton hotel, New Kingston, amid the promise of a one-of-a-kind show.
After last year's sabbatical, the Morgan family has decided to bring back the stellar event to St. Thomas, a parish described by Minister of Youth, Culture and Sports Olivia 'Babsy' Grange during her endorsement speech as "lacking in entertainment activities."
According to founder Derrick Morgan, during his comments, this year's staging will be like a new birth. "We went through six years and took the seventh as a sabbath. Now we are ready for the second birth of East Fest."
Mr. Morgan went on to add: "This year's staging is not only about entertainment, but we will also be ministering to the people through music and culture. It will be a family, a spiritual, and a cultural occasion." His occasional shouts of Jah were met with resounding responses of "Rastafari".
Robert Bryan from Grizzly's Entertainment promised a different look and feel to this year's event.
According to Mr. Bryan it will be a first-class production with a state-of-the-art stage and sound system.
Andrew Price of Wray & Nephew emceed the proceedings, with Claudette Kenlock of the Hilton hotel undertaking the task to welcome the large audience that gathered in the Jonkanoo Lounge.
Carlene Swaby reassured the RJR Communication Group's backing of the event, while associate sponsor Digicel, who is onboard for the first time pledged uncompromising support.
Karlene Walters commented for title sponsors Red Label Wine, and promised that: "Red Label Wine and the Morgan family will 'Turn on the Thrills' come December 29 at the Good Year Oval in St. Thomas."
Persons wishing to attend East Fest will have to fork out $1,200 presold and pay $1,500 at the gate. However, they will get a chance to see Anthony B, Ken Boothe, Tarrus Riley, Coco Tea, Busy Signal, and several other top-flight artistes performing live.
