Jamaican trainers win three races at Calder

MIAMI, Florida (CMC)

Champion trainer Kirk Ziadie led a trio of Jamaican winners in Calder horse racing on Sunday afternoon.

Ziadie, aiming for back-to-back title triumphs at the Tropical at Calder meet and a third consecutive trainers' title at the popular Miami facility, scored his win in the 10th race after other Jamaican trainers Jose Pinchin and Robert Hale posted wins earlier on the card.

Ziadie is leading trainer with 18 wins at the seven-week-old Tropical Calder meet, with multiple ex-champion Bill White and Kathleen O'Connell sharing second with 12 wins each.

In the US$28,500 10th race over 5-1/2 furlongs, Ziadie's five-year-old horse Blue Pepsi Lodge scored a one-length victory as the hot 6-to-5 favourite.

Took early

Ridden by Elvis Trujillo, Blue Pepsi Lodge stalked the front-running 18-1 shot Champagne Account early and took control entering the home stretch to win in one minute 04.05 seconds.

In the US$14,000 fourth race over seven furlongs, Hale's three-year-old filly Sister Sissy scored a narrow win under jockey Luis Colon at odds of 6-1.

He finished fast and snatched victory by a neck over Regal Glory (9-2) in a time of 1:24.75 for Hale's 11th win of the season.

Pinchin scored his win in the US$24,500 eighth race over a mile and sixteenth on turf with the six-year-old horse Ho Ho Ho as a 9-1 bet in the 12-horse field.

Trujillo was astride for a fine come-from-behind ride.

He sat in seventh spot down the backstretch, and after gaining on the leaders approaching the final turn, rushed forward - four wide - and battled to victory by a neck in 1:43.92.

The victory was Pinchin's sixth of the season and he is lying 13th in the standings. Hale is eighth.
