A section of the Cornwall College Choir in performance on Sunday night on TVJ's All Together Sing. - Francine Black

Sunday night's performances in TVJ's All Together Sing were the last chance for schools to garner votes to win the competition and according to judges it was a night of excellent performances.

It was the night when Cornwall asked Jamaica, Can You Hear The Bells, Vauxhall asked Jah to Sweep over my soul and St. Catherine High declared that they are the World's Greatest.

Cornwall's, Can You Hear The Bells earned rave reviews from the judges, "You are fantastic, you have the best sound for a boys choir in a long time," Lileth Sewell said.

"The bells are ringing. This choir has the best sound," Dennis Rushton said. He added that the choir should try to improve the inconsistencies with their pitch.

Lawrence Wright agreed that their performances were good but suggested the choirs learn to sing with their 'head voice' rather than their 'throat voice'.

Vauxhall's rendition of Luciano's Sweep Over My Soul was unique with them mixing in some chorus such as Sweet Lord. Rushton described the choir as the most consistent and encouraged them to continue. Sewell was thrilled to see the arrangement. "I am thrilled to see you put so much of the African retention in the song ... loved the a cappella ending . It was very effective," she said.

St. Catherine High rounded out the first set of performances for the night. Their performance of R. Kelly's World's Greatest was great as described by judges. "You have earned you right ... very proud to see you here. I didn't like how your started your conviction was weak ... as the song built you started, to believe that you are the greatest," he said.

Sewell, however, disagreed noting that the contrast between the beginning and ending was good.

In the second segment, the choirs performed songs chosen by the judges. Vauxhall was first in this segment doing, Damion Marley's, Road To Zion. Sewell thought the choir had a good sound but felt there were sections of the performance that needed improvement.

Cornwall's performance of Put A Little Love In Your Heart featured five lead singers and was also thought to be a good performance.

"You obviously love to sing, and you're making good music and you're blessed with some good voices," Wright said.

St Catherine High rounded out the performances with a performance of My Soul. Their performance included a mixture of reggae and jazz, which added variety to the song. "A very good performance. I liked the surprises, they were effective and positive. They sang with feeling," Sewell said.

At the end of the show, all judges agreed that the decision would be difficult for Jamaica but noted that all choirs had earned something from the competition and all left as winners.
