A right to invest

It is not unusual these days to hear people telling others where they should invest their money if they want to earn high interest rates.

A Jamaican businessman who is of the view that he should not be hindered in anyway from investing his money wherever he wants to because that is his legal right.

"I have 15 bank accounts and I have no problem putting my money wherever I know that I will earn big bucks from the interest, " he discloses.

"I know it is my legal right to invest my money at any financial institution or investment club I wish. I have always encouraged people to invest their money and have even introduced them to banks and other financial institutions I have been doing transactions with for years.

"Last month my brother retired and I gave him some sound financial advice and even gave him some places where he should invest his money. He wanted to put all his money in one financial institution and I told him it would be better to put his money in three of them. I must say I am happy to see regular advertisements on television warning about high risk investments. I think the advertisements are very helpful because it makes people aware that they should do background checks before investing their money.

"But as I see it, despite the advertisements some people will always go for the high risk investments, while others will not. My view is that there will be clients and customers for all business ventures," the businessman added.

People do have a right to invest their money wherever they want to. It is for the Government to ensure that all financial institutions are operating in accordance with the law.
