The brutal slaying of a pregnant woman on Tuesday night might have been linked to the crackdown of what is believed to be a kidnapping ring, police say.
Kadian Campbell, 22, of Fenbrook Avenue in Maverley, St. Andrew, was killed after she was believed, by men in the community, to be an informer who aided the police.
Reports say about 7:15 p.m., residents heard explosions. Police, upon arriving, found Campbell's body. She had gunshot wounds to her back, both arms and head.
Campbell's killing comes just hours after an alleged kidnapper was killed and six suspects detained when police smashed what is believed to be a kidnapping ring. Two brothers from Maverley were reportedly kidnapped on Monday and are being held for ransom on Kenton Avenue in Kingston 20.
Acting on information, Flying Squad and Half-Way Tree CIB detectives held one of the kidnappers, who was collecting $500,000 from one of the victim's account at a Half-Way Tree financial institution. The victim was rescued and police went to Kenton Avenue where, during a shoot-out, a man was shot. He later died at hospital.
A .38 revolver and a 9mm pistol, along with a quantity of ammunition, were seized.
Deputy Supt. Cornwall 'Bigga' Ford of the Flying Squad expressed disgust at the killing of the woman.
"Dem know seh a Bigga Ford responsible fi what happened. Dem kno weh di Flying Squad office deh. Dem si mi pon di road every day ... Why dem go kill a innocent likkle girl? If dem have any problem, a me dem fi run up inna," he said.
