We are continuing the fifth segment of this article 'How to back up your original games'. We have already looked at the Xbox, PS2 and Gamecube. Because of the limited amount of space, I decided only to show how to back up your games using a Samsung drive but the procedure is pretty much the same with the Hitachi drive.

What is required:

1. An Xbox 360 with a modchip or xtreme0800 firmware installed.

2. A computer with Windows and a DVD burner installed.

3. DvdInfo - http://www.dvdinfopro.com.

4. IsoBuster - http://www.isobuster.com.

5. Isobuilder - Included in the Xtreme package.

6. CloneCD - http://www.slysoft.com.

Extracting a security sector

Assuming you have acquired all of the tools necessary, producing a perfect working back-up image of almost any Xbox 360 game is easy. You will need to connect your Xbox 360 to your PC by opening you Xbox 360, disconnecting the SATA cable from the DVD ROM drive and connecting it to a free SATA port on your PC.

Now you can turn on you computer and Xbox 360 in order to power the Xbox 360 drive. It should come up as a regular 'CD ROM' drive in your computer. Insert the game and wait for windows to recognise the disc. When recognised it will change to 'Xbox 360'. Please note the drive letter that the Xbox 360 is called.

Open up DvdInfo and make sure that your Xbox 360 DVD-rom is selected, then select your Xbox 360 drive. Next select 'send custom command' and a window will pop up. For the first custom command set in the 'CDB Structure' you will enter the following AD 00 FF 02 FD FF FE 00 08 00 01 C0. Click send and now we will enter the second command set in the 'CDB Structure'. You only need to change the value in the field 'CDB 10'. The second custom command set is the following AD 00 FF 02 FD FF FE 00 08 00 03 C0.

Click send before moving to the third command set in the 'CDB Structure' where you only need to change the value in the field 'CDB 10'. The third custom command set is the following AD 00 FF 02 FD FF FE 00 08 00 05 C0. Click send before we enter the fourth command set in the 'CDB Structure'. You only need to change the value in the field 'CDB 10' The fourth custom command set is the following AD 00 FF 02 FD FF FE 00 08 00 07 C0. We are now finished sending the commands and must save the file. In order to save the file, look in the main window to the left for the paper and pencil icon. When it prompts you to 'please enter a size', to save, it should be set at 2048 then click ok, saving it as 'ss.bin'. Congratulations, you have just extracted a security sector.

Extracting Game Image from Disc

Inside the 'send custom command' window you will need to insert the following into the 'CDB Structure'. For the 'custom command set' in the CDB Structure you will enter the following FF 08 01 01, then click send. Now open IsoBuster and you will right click on the top item 'CD'.

Click on 'Extract From - To' where you will then be presented with a window. For the LBA insert 3567872 and make sure you click on 'User Data 2048 bytes/block for most sectors' for the extraction type, then click on start extraction. You will then be presented with a save window to save the game image, save as 'game.iso'. This will take about 20-60 minutes. With both files inside of your folder, one called 'game.iso' and the other called 'ss.bin', now you will need to copy the following files ('blank360.iso', 'build360.bat', 'IMAGE.dvd' ) from your 'Xbox 360 Isobuilder' folder to your game folder. You will now double click on 'build360.bat'. It will run in dos window for 10-45 minutes. When completed, the window will close automatically.

Backing up Files to DVD Disc

Now, open CloneCD and click on 'File' then click on 'Write from File', select image.dvd and insert blank Dual Layer disc and click ok.

The game is now burning ... When done take the game out. Once you have a modchip installed, you can now play your game. No more scratching of expensive discs.
