The CD cover for I Wayne's 'Book Of Life'.
Artiste: I Wayne
Album: Book Of Life
Genre: Reggae
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Singer I Wayne has one of those melodic voices that compels one to listen.
With a voice that could soothe an angry lion, I Wayne's latest effort, Book Of Life, shows a wealth of depth. With a brief time away from the musical spotlight, I Wayne returns to full form with his 'fire burning' against injustice. The title Book Of Life aptly describes the vast array of topics touched on by the conscious artiste, from politics to greed, love and the black identity. In Natural Ites he sings "smoking weed could never be wrong/I is herbist from birth", to the freedom of women in Jealousy and Abuse featuring Lady G.
The title track Book Of Life is one of the stand outs with a hypnotising beat and strong lyrics as I Wayne cries out "what you say or do should be true/ scorn a wicked look at life." Probably one of the strongest tracks on the CD is the popular hit song Need Her In I Arms, with its intoxicating melody. A true love song that both men and women alike have fallen in love with, I Wayne pulls out the stops lyrically, "I need in her in I arms/to charm and keep I warm/ I've been floating on and on from dusk till dawn."
Dart To Them Heart, featuring Deva Bratt, represents reggae at its core, as the two counter each other well. The only thing missing from the album is an array of rhythmic variety. What stands out the most is I Wayne's truly distinctive fine yet high-pitched singing voices. Book Of Life will satisfy the conscious reggae listeners, but also has a few selections that will titillate the average listener.
