Major player in Haitian gun, drug racket busted

A man believed to be a major player in the illicit guns for drugs trade between Jamaica and Haiti was among five persons nabbed by personnel from Operation Kingfish in Hopewell, Hanover, over the weekend.

According to spokesman for Operation Kingfish, Inspector Steve Brown,"the seizure was a joint operation headed by the agency and involved personnel from the Narcotics and the Special Anti- Crime Task force."

Inspector Brown noted that two Jamaicans and three Haitians (two women and a man) were taken into custody following the operation. He also added that police intelligence indicate that the Haitians arrived on the island some time last week by boat.

The police have described one of the Jamaicans as the mastermind behind the illegal activities, his identification is, however, being withheld pending investigations.

Meanwhile, the Haitians were held for questioning by the Immigration and Passport Division personnel.
