St Catherine make good second time around

The St. Catherine High School choir, who received the golden note in the TVJ's All Together Sing on Sunday - Francine Black

St. Catherine high is determined to make good use of the second chance they have been granted after receiving the golden note in TVJ's All Together Sing on Sunday night.

The 30 voice choir entered the competition for the first time this year and were knocked out and missed a week of the competition. But this time they intend to work hard to win the public vote and win the competition. "We plan to get into Spanish Town, go to couple of crusades do some flyers and also get in touch with the past students," Patrick Earle said

Although they intend to work harder for the choir to win, he says it is more important to him for the students on the choir to learn from the experience. The judges cited several things for choosing the choir to return including having interesting arrangements and having the total package.

The choir was started specifically for the competition after students convinced Mr. Earle, who is in charge of performing arts at the school to form a choir to enter the competition. Afterwards auditions were held and a final group of 30 students were selected. This Mr. Earle said was done to allow him a chance to choose voices appropriate to the songs they will be singing on a particular week. He also says this approach encourage students to continuously improve. "They should not have this sense of job security per se. They should keep earning their space," he said.

Even if the choir gets knocked out again, Mr. Earle says they intend to enter next year and has structured the programme so there are experienced students to continue. "There are students from third form to upper six on the choir so there is continuity. The sound will continue," he said.
