For six consecutive days, sections of Mountain View and Vineyard Town in Eastern Kingston remained under curfew.
Yesterday, the curfew was expanded and extended until 6 in the afternoon, when it was expected to finally be lifted.
In a previous statement, head of the Kingston Eastern Division, Superintendent Assan Thompson, noted that while the entire Mountain View was under focus, areas such as Jacques Road, Jarrett Lane, Saunders Avenue and McGregor Gully were of major concern.
"We will be combing those areas to see if we can move the firearms from them," the division head said.
The superintendent told THE STAR that the curfew would now include additional areas along Mountain View Avenue.
"Part of the reason for this is the belief that illegal firearms and wanted men that we are searching for might be in a wider area," said Supt. Thompson.
The curfew was started last Thursday, following a flare-up of gun violence involving rivalling gangs in the area. A 48-hour curfew was originally scheduled to be lifted on Saturday, but was extended until 6:00 Monday evening before being extended once again.
