Patrons attending the second staging of the Portmore Hair Show on Heroes Day, Monday, October 15, should expect a 'splendid show', according to the creator of the event, Althea Davis.
"This year's show will be bigger and better, it will be a splendid show, I want everyone to come out," a vibrant Davis told THE PORTMORE STAR in an interview on Wednesday. "There will be more participants (hair stylists), more models and a bigger crowd support, from last year," a confident Davis said, while, adding that two male stylists will be on the show, including last year's winner Oneil 'Dippozit' Richards from New Kingston.
This year there will be a nail design contest, and Davis noted that this will add variety to the show. The hair stylist who wins this year's competition will walk away with $50,000, up from $15,000 last year. The champion nail technician will receive $25,000. There will also be prizes for second and third in each category plus surprise gifts.
Apart from the Hair Show and Nail Design Competition, there will be an entertainment package led by performers from the Windsor School of Special Education and Gregory Park Junior Dancers, plus a 'mystery artiste'.
The show begins at noon, with attractions for the whole family. At 3:30 p.m. the nail technicians will showcase their talent, while an hour later the hair stylists take centrestage.
Miss Davis said that last year's show went better than she ever imagined. "It was really good, it went better than I thought it would, the crowd was good also, the only thing people were asking is that we get more participants (hair stylists), and this we have done for this staging of the show," Davis said.
Part proceeds of the event is in aid of the Windsor School of Special Education and the Waterford Baptist Basic School.
Meanwhile, a special prize of a new styling chair will go to the cosmetology school that carries the most students to the show.
She added that some companies have sponsored the event but she still needs more to come on board.
