Wizards, Rebels in NBL feature

By Anthony Minott, Freelance Writer

Denham Town Wizards will take on Runnin Rebels in the feature clash of a KFC National Basketball League (NBL) double-header at the stadium courts tonight, at 7:45 p.m.

In the opening encounter, set to tip off at 6:00 p.m., Blazin Panthers will face the challenge of Link Up All Stars.

Weather permitting, these are set to be the first set of matches played since Saturday night when Majesty Gardens, led by a game high 32 points from Kemar McLeish, cut down Tivoli All Stars 86-83 to record an exciting overtime win.

McLeish, who was hot all night, also pulled down 20 rebounds. He was ably supported by team leader Baldon Todd, with 18 points.

The outstanding Damion Young led Tivoli with 29 points and grabbed 20 rebounds, while Young's teammate Paul Oliphant added 24 points.

In a game that any of the teams could have won, Tivoli took the first quarter 17-15. The second quarter was also close and Majesty Gardens won it to lead by two points (33-31) at the half-time break.

However Tivoli, led by Young, had a strong third quarter and pumped in 29 points, to Majesty's 23, for a four-point advantage. In the final quarter, Majesty came roaring back and when the horn blared for the end of regulation, the scores read 76-76. Majesty had the upper hand going into the extra period and outscored their opponents 10-7 for a hard-fought victory.

In the night's opening contest, Portmore Flames went down 54-49 to Arnett Gardens Rockers in a low-scoring game. Only four players, three from Flames and one from Rockers, recorded double-figure scores. Rockers' top scorer was Vivian Spence with 15 points, while Kevin Grooves (14), Adrian Coote (13) and Christopher Sancroft (11) scored most points for the losers.
