Jamaica College out to hammer 'Mary's'

Kwesi Mugisa, Staff Reporter

Group A leaders Jamaica College (J.C.) are expected to put some distance between themselves and second-placed Waterford, when they take on a winless St. Mary's College at St. Mary's College in ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel Manning Cup action today.

The Old Hope Road team, which can also be listed as title favourites, are currently ahead of Waterford on goal difference though both teams are tied on 13 points.

Having already conceded 29 goals this season, St. Mary's could find it next to impossible to stop a J.C. team that seem to be hitting its stride.

In Group E, Charlie Smith will play the second half of their encounter against Denham Town at 2:30 p.m. at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex. Denham Town were 5-0 ahead when the game was played but gunshots fired at the grounds prevented the restart of the second half. It's a tight race to see which two teams will advance from the very competitive Group D.

In the hunt for a place in the second round a determined St. George's will have to find some goals when they host Penwood at Winchester Park. Bridgeport lead the group with 13 points, the same St. George's. Both teams are ahead of Norman Manely (11), but Manley have a game in hand. Goals may prove to be decisive for teams advancing from the group.

Bridgeport have a goal difference of 16 and so have very little problems in that respect, but George's with seven and Manley with five will be going for more.

Manley will travel to Vauxhall where they tackle rivals Dunoon.

In Group C, Calabar will want to secure their lead at the top of the group when they travel to take on Campion. Calabar have already beaten their main competitors in the group, Wolmer's, home and away, but the boys from Red Hills Road have already drawn two fixtures, including the first encounter against Campion. Wolmer's will look to play catch-up when they host Meadowbrook. Kingston Technical will play St. Catherine in the day's other game.
