Waterford High continued their impressive run in this year's Inter-Secondary Schools Association (ISSA)/ Pepsi/ Digicel / Manning Cup competition, with a 12-1 drubbing of hosts St. Mary's College yesterday.

In two other Group A matches, Jamaica College beat Innswood 3-0, while Tivoli Gardens and St. Jago drew 1-1.

Waterford now lead the group on goal difference ahead of JC. Both schools have ten points but Waterford have a plus 12 goal difference, while JC's is plus ten. Tivoli are in third on nine points.

In Group E, Camperdown whipped Ascot 7-1, Greater Portmore defeated Denham Town 5-1 and Charlie Smith thrashed Pembroke Hall 4-1.

At the Edward Seaga Complex, Tivoli Gardens dominated the first period but were let down due to poor finishing from Trydon White and Marlon Abraham.

On the resumption, Cushane Carter gave St. Jago the lead in the 52nd minute with a spectacular 30-yards shot which went like a rocket over the head of goalkeeper Ramone Reid and into the back of the net. However, ten minutes later, Tivoli Gardens got the equaliser courtesy of an own goal by defender Oneil Clarke.

After dominating the final ten minutes of the game, Tivoli Gardens were awarded a free-kick in injury time. Marlon Abraham's effort appeared destined for goal but the Tivoli player was denied by the crossbar.

Dave Clarke, coach of Tivoli Gardens, was disappointed with his team's performance.

"I am completely embarrassed because the game ended 1-1 and we didn't score a goal," said Clarke. "We are playing a team that had a goalkeeper who just can't keep and yet our shots were just not on target. We are playing at home and we expected three points."

Roy Simpson, coach of St. Jago said: "I think we absorbed a lot of pressure from Tivoli in the first half. However, we created some chances and we didn't make use of them. "We got an early goal in the second half, but it was sad that we had to concede an own goal but I think it was a good improvement from Saturday's match in which we were beaten 5-0 by Jamaica College," Simpson said.
