Sardine thief sent to the can

A man who was sentenced to 60 days in prison for stealing sardines and several packages of Lasco must be wishing he could turn back time.

Michael Samuels was sentenced by Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, after pleading guilty to simple larceny.

The court heard that Samuels was held with 12 tins of sardines and eight packets of Lasco at a Super Plus Food Store. After registering his plea, Samuels begged for forgiveness, telling RM Pusey, "It's my first time your honour. Mi mek a mistake, Ma'am. Can you give me some community service please?"

To this RM Pusey replied, "Is a whole heap a sardine's worth of mistake dat." She then handed down her sentence and ordered Samuels to give his fingerprints to the police.
