Dancehall artiste Beenie Man and his estranged wife D'Angel are engaged in a legal battle in the Supreme Court over her entitlements as his wife.
Michelle 'D'Angel' Downer is seeking a big stake in the recording company Mafia House and other assets.
D'Angel had also brought a maintenance suit against Beenie Man but, according to sources close to the case, that aspect has been settled.
The sources told THE STAR that D'Angel requested a figure of more than $100,000 monthly for maintenance for her and their 11-month-old son, Marco Dean. However, the sources say that she was not successful in getting what she was seeking as the amount awarded for the monthly maintenance was way below that.
The aspect involving the assets in the company is set for hearing at a later date.
The celebrity couple is said to have appeared in court earlier this month concerning the issue. The case is, however, not open to the media.
The couple's marriage fell apart before their first wedding anniversary. They had tied the knot in a lavish ceremony in the hills of St. Andrew on August 22, 2006.
Posing with Barbee
After several reports of matrimonial discord, Beenie was seen this summer posing with upcoming artiste Barbee at the Red Stripe Reggae Sumfest in Montego Bay. The two were said to have been hugging and dancing with each other.
A few days later on a radio programme Beenie accused his wife of having a lover in New York, which led to the breakdown of their marriage. D'Angel, however, declared that "Moses is the one who left his marital home," and accused him of physical abuse.
Last month Beenie was escorted by the police from the Mafia House premises after he attempted to remove most of the furniture. D'Angel had arrived with an injunction and her lawyer, barring him from doing so and insisting that the furniture belonged to her.
The lawyers representing the couple in the case are tight-lipped about the matter.
