India beat Pakistan 3-0 in a dramatic five-ball bowl-out at three stumps after their Twenty20 World Cup match ended in a tie yesterday.
Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh and Robin Uthappa hit the stumps in the bowl-out while Pakistan trio Yasir Arafat, Umar Gul and Shahid Afridi all missed.
"We practice the bowl-out at each training session and the guys we chose were the ones who bowled the best in practice," India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni told reporters.
Earlier, Uthappa top-scored with 50 as India totalled 141 for nine after being put in to bat.
Paceman Mohammad Asif took four for 18 to reduce India to 36 for four before Uthappa and Mahendra Singh Dhoni steadied the innings with a fifth-wicket stand of 46.
Fast bowler Arafat had Dhoni caught for 33 by Younis Khan at long-off in the last over.
Pakistan's reply faltered when they lost three wickets for three runs to slip to 47 for four in the ninth over.
Misbah-ul-Haq (53) hauled his team back into the match before being run out off the final ball as Pakistan finished on 141 for seven.
Despite their defeat, Pakistan will join India in the Super Eights second round stage.
In two other matches played yesterday Sri Lanka and Australia scored crushing victories over Kenya and England respectively.
Sri Lanka were in record-breaking mood when they beat Kenya by 172 runs.
After their batsmen had hammered the Kenyan bowlers by amassing a record Twenty20 score of 260 for six, their attack ensured the Africans' reply had the tone of a Test match innings as they crawled to 88 for nine in 19.3 overs. Thomas Odoyo was injured and could not bat.
Left-arm seamer Chaminda Vaas took two for 15 in his four overs with the new ball and Lasith Malinga looked in fine form with two for 13.
Sri Lanka's winning margin is the biggest in twenty20 internationals, beating England's 100-run victory over Australia in Southampton in 2005.
The Sri Lankans plundered 30 fours and 11 sixes in a brutal run-fest that crushed Australia's record score of 221 for five against England in Sydney earlier this year.
Sanath Jayasuriya make 88 and captain Mahela Jayawardene 65. Jehan Mubarak ensured it was no contest as far as the world record was concerned scoring 46 not out off just 13 balls.
Australia roared into the Super Eights after thrashing England by eight wickets in the final Group B match.
Scores: England 135, Australia 136-2 (M. Hayden 67).The world champions were in danger of being eliminated in the first stage of the competition after their shock defeat by Zimbabwe in their opening match. But they made amends after they overhauled England's total of 135 all out with 31 balls to spare.
Zimbabwe were knocked out of the event on net run rate since all three teams in the group finished with two points.
Fast bowlers Mitchell Johnson and Nathan Bracken grabbed six wickets between them while Matthew Hayden and Adam Gilchrist shared an opening stand of 78.
Johnson took three for 22 while Bracken claimed three for 16 to help dismiss England, whose batsmen struggled to score steadily against Australia's disciplined bowling.
Andrew Flintoff's 31 from 19 balls was their top score and their biggest partnership was the 30 runs shared by Flintoff and Owais Shah, who scored 14.
Kevin Pietersen, who had said England were eager to "humiliate" Australia by pushing them towards an early exit, was bowled by Bracken for an uninspired 21.
Australia's batsmen continued the good work and Gilchrist lashed 45 from 28 balls with five fours and a six.
Hayden was just as aggressive and reached his half century from 34 deliveries before guiding his team to victory with an unbeaten 67 from 43 balls with 11 fours and one six.
