Two adults and a juvenile who were held in possession of $250,000 worth of computer equipment, some of which was allegedly stolen from the St. James High School, were denied bail in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
Sheneil Smith, 28, Marvin Dawkins, 21, and a 17-year-old student - all of Mount Salem, St. James addresses - were remanded by RM Wilson Smith. He said he needed to hear more evidence in the matter before making any decision.
In their bail applications, attorneys Dalton Reid, who represents the teen, and Kenneth McLeod, representing Dawkins, told the court that their clients are computer technicians and were in possession of the items because persons had left them to be fixed.
The investigating officer, however, informed the court that a staff member of the St. James High School identified three of the computers, valued at $120,000, as those belonging to the school. In light of the new development a new charge could be levelled against the accused persons.
The men will remain in custody until September 29, while the police was told to complete the file.
The prosecution is alleging that the police, armed with a search warrant, went to Smith's residence on August 16. A search of the premises revealed several items of computer and computer equipment. Based on information he gave the police, the homes of Dawkins and the juvenile were searched and similar items recovered.
