The obsession to become a policeman apparently got the better of Beresford Lewis.
Lewis was held with a fake Jamaica Constabulary Force identification at, of all places, the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Courthouse trying to impersonate a police officer.
Lewis, 33, told the Resident Magistrate at the court when he appeared on charges of impersonating a police officer and uttering forged documents, that he had always wanted to become a policeman and was prepared to serve at any level. He said attempts to become a district constable were also unsuccessful.
"Your honour, I am guilty with explanation. Because mi roun di police fi a period of time and assist dem, dem mek di ID and tell mi dat mi can use it fi do a ting," he said.
Forged documents
The Resident Magistrate asked Lewis why he had not gone through the proper channels, but Lewis was unable to answer. "Even if you wanted to become a District Constable you would not be able to because you have just pleaded guilty to uttering forged documents which is a very serious offence," the RM said after taking the fake ID and comparing it with one from a police officer.
Lewis was adamant that he was given the ID by the police.
He was remanded and told to give information to the investigating officers as to who gave him the fake ID as it was a very big thing.
Allegations say Lewis was picked up about 9:45 a.m. by Inspector Girvis Wilson after he received certain information. When he accosted Lewis and took him to the holding area, he allegedly placed the fake ID in his mouth and started to chew. It was retrieved and presented as evidence. He will be sentenced on July 31.
